Soap Base Ingredients
Essential Oils (scents)
Olive oil contributes to a stable lather that will spread smoothly and leave skin feeling evenly cared for and fresh. Ffrey soaps are created using first cold press extra virgin olive oil from California that is non-GMO.
High in unsaponifiable trace elements which do not react with the lye and therefore remain in the final bars, avocado oil helps create a soap that is gentle on skin. Ffrey sources expeller-pressed avocado oil that is non-GMO and glyphosate residue free.
Naturally resistant to rancidity, coconut oil makes for a very hard bar, yet it remains highly soluble and is quick to create a fluffy lather that leaves skin feeling fresh and clean. Ffrey responsibly sources refined coconut oil that is USDA Certified Organic, All Natural, Non-GMO, non-hydrogenated, and made without chemicals, additives, and preservatives.
A compound made by bees to store eggs and honey, beeswax is primarily esters formed by the reaction of an acid and an alcohol. These natural esters are what contribute to the hardness and slight, honey-like aroma of Ffrey bars.
Thick and high in unsaponifiable elements which remain in the soap through the soap making process, washing with cocoa butter can help skin feel youthful and elastic. Ffrey uses only prime pressed cocoa butter, which is considered gluten free, vegan, non-hydrogenated, and free of glutamate, BSE, and preservatives.
Used only in Ffrey’s earliest recipes, hempseed oil is very high in essential fatty acids (the omegas: alpha linolenic, linolenic, and oleic acids make up 88% of total fatty acid content) vitamis, and enzimes. (No active CBD or THC content)
Ffrey recipes have moved away from its use only due to its unstable nature and tendency toward rancidity. Still available for use in custom orders.
A fermented mixture of malt sugars, hop oils, and brewer’s yeast Ffrey uses a proprietary mixture of a variety of commercially available beers* blended uniquely for each batch. Using beer* in our recipes will help leave your skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated.
*Ffrey soaps are made with beer which has been boiled to remove the alcohol and carbon dioxide, leaving our soaps alcohol-free and legal for skin of all ages.
Ffrey uses sodium hydroxide (lye) dissolved in liquid and blended with our combination of oils. Lye transforms the liquid oils into solid bars of soap in an ancient process called saponification in which the fatty acids in the oils combine with the lye to create a soap molecule.
Ffrey soaps are made with extra oils, a technique called “superfatting,” to ensure no lye remains in our final products.
Lavender buds, harvested and dried from the backyard and added to the soap as-is.
